At Cosmetic Dentistry of the Carolinas in Huntersville, North Carolina, our first priority is your oral health. Our commitment to making beautiful restorations includes concern for the health of the gum and bone supporting the teeth. We emphasize meticulous cleaning, both when we clean your teeth and when we provide you with cleaning techniques and preferred home products to keep your teeth clean and healthy.
Before Dr. Tyler Wurmlinger or Dr. Ross Nash make any treatment recommendations, you will be scheduled for a consultation so we can learn about your dental needs and treatment expectations. We want you to feel comfortable and confident you have chosen the right office for your dental care.
What to Expect During Your Appointment
We will give you the opportunity to meet your dentist and provide you the time you need to discuss your dental care and future treatment. If your priority is cosmetic and aesthetic treatment, we will begin the consultation with that in mind, while also paying attention to your overall dental health. Using the latest in dental technology, in our state of the art Huntersville practice, we will enlist current dental diagnostic tools to make an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan.
During your first visit, we will discuss your existing oral health status and offer recommendations for continued long term dental health.

Dental Cleanings & Exams
Regular dental cleanings and exams are one of the best ways to keep your smile healthy and catch small issues before they become bigger (and more expensive) problems. At Cosmetic Dentistry of the Carolinas, we genuinely care about your comfort and well-being. Our team takes time to get to know you, and we use the latest technology to make sure you feel confident in your care and your smile. During your visit, our hygienist will gently clean your teeth, polish away surface stains, and walk you through tips for caring for your teeth at home. Then, one of our dentists will check your teeth, gums, and overall oral health—sometimes using X-rays—to catch any signs of decay or gum disease early. Most patients come in every six months, but we’ll recommend a schedule based on your individual needs. Appointments typically take about 45 minutes to an hour, depending on what your smile needs.
Tooth Extractions
Tooth extraction may be necessary when a severely damaged or decayed tooth can’t be saved. While our team always aims to preserve your natural teeth, sometimes removing a tooth is the best way to protect your overall oral health. Tooth extractions are typically recommended for severe decay, fractures, gum disease, impacted or crowded teeth, or after injuries. We’ll start with a thorough exam and digital X-rays, then walk you through your options—including sedation to keep you comfortable. The procedure involves numbing the area, removing the tooth, and placing gauze to encourage healing. Sometimes, stitches or a bone graft may be needed to support your jaw. Tooth extraction can provide immediate relief from pain and prevent further infection or damage. Once healed, we’ll help you explore options like dental implants or bridges to restore your smile.
Fluoride Treatment
Fluoride is a natural mineral found in water sources and is known for preventing cavities. It strengthens tooth enamel, making it more resistant to acid and decay. Topical fluoride treatments during dental visits can further protect your teeth and reverse early signs of tooth decay. At Cosmetic Dentistry of the Carolinas, we offer professional fluoride treatments to help patients of all ages maintain strong, healthy teeth. These treatments are especially helpful for those at higher risk for cavities due to diet, dry mouth, or poor oral hygiene. Fluoride protects teeth in two ways: systemically (through food and drinks before teeth erupt) and topically (after teeth emerge, through toothpaste, mouth rinses, and in-office treatments). Professional fluoride treatments are quick and often flavored, and we may recommend avoiding food and drink for 30 minutes afterward for best results. Depending on your risk for cavities, fluoride treatments may be recommended every 3, 6, or 12 months, and prescription fluoride products may also be suggested for added protection.
Root Canal Treatment
Root canal treatment is used to save a tooth with infected or damaged pulp caused by deep decay, cracks, or injury. The procedure relieves pain by removing the inflamed pulp, cleaning the inside of the tooth, and sealing it to prevent reinfection. Symptoms that may indicate the need for a root canal include ongoing tooth pain, sensitivity to hot or cold, swollen gums, darkening of the tooth, or pain when biting. The treatment begins with local anesthesia and the placement of a rubber dam to isolate the tooth. A small opening is made to access and remove the infected tissue, and the area is thoroughly cleaned and filled. A temporary filling is placed, followed by a dental crown to protect and restore the tooth’s strength and function. Root canals are an effective way to preserve your natural smile and improve oral health.
